Opportunity Spaces Aarhus is a smartphone app that addresses the underuse of external spaces, and the need for more nature and recreation spaces, in Aarhus, Denmark.
The app was developed as part of the EU Horizon 2020 Organicity research project.
Opportunity Spaces Aarhus allows citizens to take geo-tagged images that automatically link to a shared map of underused spaces in the city, contribute information and observations on the spaces, and put forward ideas for their re-use to an online ideas noticeboard.
The app was tested in February 2017 by Masters students from Aarhus University, who reported that it encouraged them to observe underused spaces and imagine how they could be used better.
Space Engagers is currently developing a further iteration of Opportunity Spaces Aarhus.
